9th Edition of Arab Media Forum to Host Sessions on ‘Etiquette of Dialogue’ and ‘Sports Satellite Channels’

Dubai Press Club today announced the ninth edition of the Arab Media Forum will invite panelists’ viewpoints on the etiquette of dialogue and the impact of global sports satellite channels on their local counterparts.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Arab Media Forum 2010 is themed ‘Shifting Mediascape: Inspiring Content…Expanding Reach’ and will be held from 12-13 May at The Atlantis-Palm. The Arab Journalism Awards will serve as a glittering finale for the two-day event that will deliberate on topics of relevance to the regional media at large.

Maryam Bin Fahad, Executive Director, Dubai Press Club, said: “Arab Media Forum 2010 will address the outcomes of a recent study on the challenges involved in live television debates. Conducted by the Kuwaiti writer and researcher Mohammed Al-Nughaimeesh, the findings of the study were featured in a book titled ‘Don’t Interrupt Me’. Panelists at this session will exchange opinions on TV speakers interrupting each other and the criteria of a successful discussion programme.”

Moderated by Dr. Abdul Khaleq Abdullah, a political science professor at the UAE University, the session will include key speakers such as Turki Al Dakheel, TV Anchor for Ida’at, Al Arabiya Channel, Amr Adib, Presenter of Al Kahera Al Youm - a talk show on Orbit Showtime Network, Dr. Faisal Al Qassim, Presenter of Al Ittijah Al Mo’akes - Al Jazeerah Channel, Marcel Ghanem, Presenter of Kalam El Nas on LBC, in addition to Mohammed Al-Nughaimeesh, a specialized author of management at Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper.

The session “Sports Journalism….Pressure of Globalization and the Sports Economy” will aim to explore the influence of sports and its economy, and the extent of local presence in sports journalism, particularly in television.

Bin Fahad added: “This session will discuss the effects of globalized sports and its economics, as well as its impact on local sports journalism, particularly satellite channels. It will also address many questions on the future of and the role of the Arab States Broadcasting Union in coordinating, selling and broadcasting sports events.”

To be moderated by Battal Al Goos, Presenter of Fel Marma, Al Arabiya News Channel, the session will include key speakers such as Rashid Amiri, General Manager of Dubai Sports Channel, Mohammed Najeeb, Head of Abu Dhabi Sports Channels, Mustafa Hussein, Head of Nile Sports Channel, and Mohammed Jameel Abdel Qader, Chairman, Arab Sports Press Association.

More than 800 media personalities and specialists from Arab countries and across the world will participate in Arab Media Forum 2010 that will witness over 70 speakers debating and discussing key industry topics that impact today’s media world.
