
Dubai Press Club Calls on Youth to Sign up for Voluntary Engagement

Dubai Press Club (DPC) today called uponuniversity students and UAE nationals to volunteer for its round-the-year activities, which includes the much-awaited Arab Media Forum and the Arab Journalism Awards.
The volunteers will be divided into teams and thetasks phased-outover a period of eight months. As part of their support to DPC on a part-time basis, the volunteers will facilitate the screening of submissionstothe Arab Journalism Awards (AJA). Additionally, they will be tasked with the follow-up communication and field interviews for the fourth editionof the Arab Media Outlook Report, a powerful resource of information on the Arab media landscape.
Dubai Press Clubhosts an average of 60 volunteers annually to offer aspiring media professionals with an experience of working in a corporate ambience and bringing them up to speedonthe latest developments in the regional media industry.
DPC’s initiative to engage volunteers is in line with its efforts to promote volunteerism and community service amongst the youth. As the largest gathering of media in the Arab world, participation in the event will also allow students and other volunteers to hone their project management skills.Students-volunteers this year will witness introspective debates that dominate today’s media landscape. The experience is anticipated to help broaden their career prospects and open doors to new opportunities.
In itscommitment to youth development, DPC launched a competition on 8 January with the goal of investing, exploring and showcasing the talent of UAE nationals to the Arab world. Titled ‘Youth Make their Own Platform’, the contestinvitesEmirati students to suggest topical themes for workshops that will be hosted at the upcoming Arab Media Forum (AMF 2012). Winners of the competition will have their suggestions incorporated into the agenda of the event. The deadline for submitting entries to the competition is 8 February, 2012.
The competition comes as part of DPC’s initiative to actively engage with the youth in the region and help nurture their innate curiosity about the world around them.The competition is set to offer an empowering experience not just for the winner but for every contestantas well.

Over the past decade, the Arab Media Forum has evolved into the largest media event in the Arab world. Thousands of participants comprising influential decision-makers from visual, print, audio and online media have participated inthe past editions of the event. The gathering of intellectual thought-leaders, researchers, academics and media students has significantly helped explore and develop a roadmap for the industry’s future.
