Workshop 1 - “Media Content…More Personal…More Interactive” - Al Ameera Ballroom 1
Tuesday, 17 May 2011 09:00 AM – 10:15 AM
Arab media is undergoing a substantial change in the type of content it produces. It is responding to public demand by gradually shifting from general issues and topics to specialized news, and rapidly moving towards the phenomenon of customized media. It has become an attractive interactive avenue for the public to express their opinions and discover their talents.
We are now seeing channels offer more localised programmes that are closer to the interests of the targeted audiences, while choosing to neglect other news regardless of its broader impact and importance.
Some organisations now produce televised content specifically for internet and social networking audiences. Smart platforms such as those launched by the technology companies Google and Apple, and developed in cooperation with companies specializing in televised content management, have emerged to combine television with internet. This reflects a broader trend towards multi-platform interactive media that links television and internet-based social networking with the ability to search and browse video and audio content on both platforms.
This session aims to highlight this development and the extent of its impact on major media organisations that have started to customise their programmes to match the diverse interests of their audiences.
Topics:
- What is the impact of customized media both locally and globally?
- How will traditional media manage this transformation?
- What will the competition look like between different media, particularly satellite channels?
