Kandil is a columnist and the managing editor of Al Shorouk Newspaper. He began his career as a journalist in Rose Al Youssef. In addition to being the managing editor and writer in the Egyptian Al Arabi Nasiri newspaper, he has also worked in ‘Al Wattan’ Saudi newspaper from 2004 to 2008. Kandil was one of the first writers that predicted the 25th January 2011 revolution in Egypt, and sided with the youth since day one. He was honored by the revolution coalition and awarded a certificate of appreciation and a medal deeming him worthy of the term 'Writer of the Revolution'.
